Dates are rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber, which promote heavy bowel function and prevent cancer.
They are also a great source of natural sugars.
I look for organic dates as the main sweetener in snack bars I’m considering, or in my homemade baked goods. Many manufacturers have used the much cheaper sugar alcohols (like erythritol) and artificial sweeteners (like sucralose) found in major brand products, but I don’t recommend these. And, when macro-nutrients are in the proper balance, the sugar from organic dates does NOT cause a spike in blood sugar level, contrary to popular belief (which is why that “myth’ has been perpetuated by companies who actually want you to think that these low and no-calorie fake sweeteners are better for your health than sugars from real food!
